The bottom rail of my door has gone soft. Is it still worth refinishing?
Often yes. The bottom rail is where water sits, so it is the first part to go, and localized repair before finishing is normal work on a hundred-year-old door. What we will not do is bury real rot under new coats and call it done. We look at it before quoting and tell you plainly whether it is a repair-and-refinish job or whether the slab has gone past saving. Most of the time it has not.
